What You Need To Know About Certificates and Qualifications
City and Guilds 6129 (Technical Certificate)
This is the certificate regarded by the industry as the requirement to become a "qualified plumber" It is linked together with the C&G 6089 NVQ2 (see below). If you are considering a career change, then this certificate is the one you should aim for.
City and Guilds 6089 (NVQ Level 2 Certificate)
This certificate can only be achieved after completing C&G 6129 Tech Cert (see above).
The C&G 6089 NVQ 2 is a work based qualification. We inspect 5 on-site jobs when you are working as a plumber. You decide when we visit. Depending on your experience, visits can be arranged immediately after the C&G 6129 course. After the visits you are awarded the City & Guilds 6089 NVQ Level 2.
More qualifications - During your course
Changes in the plumbing industry require you, and established plumbers, to consider gaining further qualifications. (The following certificates are all recognised in the plumbing industry.)Bpec Water Regulations Certificate
This certificate allows the plumber to carry out work without notifying the local authority. A plumber without this certificate may have to wait weeks for local authority approval. With this certificate you can approach your local water company to be placed on their list of Approved Contractors This is only possible once you have achieved an NVQ Level 2 on our 10 week course.
Bpec Unvented Hot Water Systems Certificate
This certificate allows you to design, install and maintain this water system. These systems are being installed in their 1000’s all over the country. Only plumbers with this certificate are allowed to work on these systems. If you gain this certificate, you can apply to become an "Approved Contractor." This is only possible once you have achieved 6 months in the industry or an NVQ Level 2 or 3.
Bpec Energy Efficiency Certificate (Level 3)
This certificate allows you to take account of central heating system up-grades when a boiler change is required. This is aimed at candidates who have knowledge of central heating. Candidates should have achieved 6 months in the industry or an NVQ Level 2 or 3.
All of the above certificates are included in our 10-week course. The Approved Plumber status on the above certificates can only be gained after achieving a C&G 6129 and 6089 NVQ 2. You will be taught these subjects as part of your 10-week course.
Part P ( Defined Scope) Electrical Certificate
Changes to Part P of the Building Regulations mean that a significant proportion of all electrical work carried out in dwellings in England and Wales now has to be notified to the local Building Control department.
Operatives carrying out electrical work can become members of a competent person's scheme. The scheme will then allow the operative to self-certify the work and scheme provider will notify Building Control on the operative's behalf. No further visits or costs will be incurred from Building Control.
BPEC Services Ltd has recently launched a training manual for Part P Defined Scope, which is supplied free of charge to the student.
